Object found in funerary context

A question from an Italian colleague: Have you seen a similar object?

This object was found in a grave during the excavation (about 20 years ago by Soprintendenza Archeologica della Puglia) of a Late Antiquity (6th century AD) cemetery in the town of Taranto (south Italy).

The individual was an adult male with os acromiale on left scapula.

The measurements of the object, made from snake skin, are: 22mm x 28mm, and 7 mm of thickness.

Hello, I am a Spanish paleontologist. The object is a mouth plate of a type of ray fish. A myliobatoid teeth. Possibly a Pteromylaeus. This animal use this to triturate crabs and shells. See this direcction http://www.elasmo.com/selachin/slides/ss_dentition.html?sp=pbov
