This section, initially created like support for the mailing list Zooarch, is opened today for all people which have a mystery to elucidate. You can post photographs, images, or drawings of rather good quality to allow our visitors to propose determinations and/or interpretations.

Instructions :
To place an image you must first create a message in this page (see full instructions below).
The picture can be included in the body of the message as long as it is no wider than 600 pixels. Higher resolution images can be add as an attached file (at the bottom of the page).
Then you must wait for your article to be validated (published) by one of the administrators so that it can be seen on the public interface.

Here is a tooth fragment along 22 millimeters found in the faunal material of the "Obodas chapel" in Petra. This might suggest a tooth fragment of an elephant, but that determination seems unsatisfactory. Outside this mysterious fragment, material is mainly composed of remains from Caprinae, Equidae and Camelidae, so nothing very exotic ... Many thanks in advance to help me to clarify this mystery. Forum 06 Area 1, SF #568, ctx 334 2nd C AD A wedge-shaped piece of bone measuring 82.2mm x 24.8mm x 16.1mm, probably a piece from towards the end of a very large long bone as the wide end shows remnants of cancellous bone on what would have been the internal surface and the end on view also shows cancellous bone. It has been worked on all surfaces, photos show what I guess are file or saw marks, but at the wider end enough remains of the original external surface to show that it was (...)
